September 25th is #WorldPharmacistsDay, set up by the International Pharmaceutical Federation. For World Pharmacists Day 2015, I wrote about why I’m proud to be a pharmacist and this year I’ve decided to dedicate my blog post to the charity Pharmacist Support.
Pharmacist Support supports pharmacists, as the name suggests! The charity helps hundreds of pharmacists and their families, former pharmacists, pre-registration trainees and pharmacy students across the UK every year. Since 2008 it has provided over 10,000 acts of support to those having a tough time through things such as illness, addiction, bereavement or unemployment.
Having a chronic illness has taught me, amongst other things, that life doesn’t always go to plan. Health is fragile and we can lose everything overnight. Pharmacist Support hoiked me up out of a difficult situation that was really getting me down, and my only regret is that I didn’t contact them sooner. Go Green for Pharmacist Support is a fundraising campaign running from 25th September to 1st October. Pharmacy teams are doing all sorts of fun things to raise money, like bake sales, dressing up in green, and half marathons. You can find out what they’re up to by looking at the hashtag #GoGreen4PS. Please support them in their 175th year of helping pharmacists in need.
