Action for M.E. have announced the exciting news that renowned M.E. researcher, Prof Julia Newton, and retired M.E. specialist, Dr Gregor Purdie, will share the role of medical adviser to the charity. They jointly take over the role from Dr Alistair Miller, who has been the charity’s medical adviser since 2006.
Prof Newton is Clinical Professor of Ageing and Medicine and also Dean of Clinical Medicine at Newcastle University. She has published a great deal of biological research into M.E., some of which has been funded by Action for M.E.
Dr Purdie, who is also a Trustee of Action for M.E., was M.E. Clinical Lead for NHS Dumfries and Galloway prior to his retirement and has worked with Action for M.E. on GP education, such as the GP webinars.
Sonya Chowdhury, CEO of Action for M.E., says, “Bringing together considerable research experience and significant clinical expertise, Prof Newton and Dr Purdie are something of a dream team for us. I know their extensive knowledge, shared with Action for M.E. staff and Trustees, and in turn with those whom we support, will help improve the lives of those affected by this terrible condition.”
